I am based near Coffs Harbour NSW and when I’m not producing beautiful photos you’ll find me continuing my journey to find the best coffee ever, hitting the beach or travelling. BUT what I love is producing beautiful portrait photography.
Simon Whittaker
I learned photography from my father who was a successful media and commercial photographer, I used to spend my school holidays with him at the studio, accompanying him on shoots, printing in the darkroom etc. and I still get the odd tip from him still which is nice!
One of the other things I got from my father is a love of black and white photography, I wasn’t allowed to shoot colour film until I had learned the special skill set that black and white teaches you. When I was finally allowed to shoot colour I really enjoyed it but black and white kept bringing me back.
I am driven to keep honing my craft and continue professional development. In the past I have been mentored by WPPI and AIPP Wedding Photographer of the year Ryan Schembri and am currently being mentored by William Long, William is is arguably one of Australia’s most reputable, successful and technically diverse professional photographers.
In 2013 I became a fully accredited member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) having passed the rigorous testing and assessment required for admission. Continued membership requires running an ethical, professional business, being fully insured, adhering to the Institutes Code of Conduct and continuing professional development.
Creating truly special moments
A key part of creating truly special moments is putting people at ease, I am a people person and I engage people with a laid back and informal approach because I find people are more relaxed and natural. From there I try to inject some creativity and personal touches to what I know consistently produces beautiful images.
Whilst many photographers are happy to just push a button, for me it is the final step after applying my skill and experience to set the shots up for success.
